Hayes & Yeading (away) L 1-5
Middlesex Senior Cup 1st Round - 20 September 09
Scorer: Billy Williams
Report: Hendon Under-16s opened their season with a Middlesex County FA Youth Cup tie at Hayes & Yeading, who play two divisions above the young Greens and were fancied to win by a hatful. It didn't quite work out that way as Hendon kept the game close, despite conceding after two and 14 minutes.
Hendon pulled a goal back midway through the first half when a free-kick by Shaquille Tynedale-Weekes was floated into the box. It was met on the half-volley by Billy Williams, who coolly fired the ball into the bottom corner. Buoyed by this, Hendon enjoyed some good possession, but without threatening the Hayes & Yeading goal. Five minutes later, however, Hendon were rather unfortunate to concede a penalty, which was converted to make it 3-1.
Hayes & Yeading then made it harder for themselves as they had a player sent off for threatening behaviour. It helped Hendon to get more into the game and Williams rattled the crossbar from 20 yards after a mazy little run. Unfortunately, with the last touch in the first half, H&Y broke through and made it 4-1 with a lob over Liam Hyland.
With the wind and the slope against them in the second, Hendon struggled to get forward. But the defending was excellent and Hendon conceded only one more goal, after 56 minutes. They did create a couple of half-chances, notably a Blake Antwi run into the penalty area, which the keeper smothered bravely his feet.
Manager Paul McGreal said, "I am more confident about the season ahead today than I was last week. I always felt that against a team two divisions above we'd struggle to get a result, so was more looking at the performance, and it was exactly what my assistant Liam and I were after - skilful play, commitment, and hard-work.
"We still need to work on some areas, but once more players are available again, we'll be more than alright. We told the players after the match, that had we played that game with last year's squad, we would have ended up on the wrong end of a score-line in the high teens.
"Our next two games (against Charville in the Harrow Youth League and Ruislip Rangers in the Harrow Youth League Cup) will be a realistic indicator of how the season will pan out.
"As for our best players, skipper Anthony Tang performed well in central defence, and made a number of vital interceptions, especially in the second half. But my man of the match was Billy Williams, who not only scored a great goal but also produced a fine all-round performance."

Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 27 September 09
Scorer: Tung Nguyen
Report The Under-16s lost their opening Harrow Youth League Division Three encounter at Copthall Playing Fields on Sunday morning, conceding the final goal in the last couple of minutes as they chased an equaliser. It is a measure of how far they have come in the past 12 months that they were still in the game until very near the final whistle.
The first half was even with few goalscoring opportunities. However, one minute into the second half, Hendon were awarded free-kick which was taken by Shaquille Tynedale-Weekes. The ball came across to Tung Nguyan, who scored with a magnificent overhead kick. Charville resorted to long-ball tactics to get back into the game and it worked as they scored midway through the second half and took the lead with a penalty five minutes later. As Hendon then chased the game, they left gaps at the back and, with two minutes, to Charville took advantage of this and made it 3-1.
Hendon manager Paul McGreal said, "It's a flat, dejected dressing room at the moment because we felt we should have won. We battled really hard. My man of the match was Shaquille Tyndale-Weekes, who put in a magnificent shift in midfield."

Ruislip Rangers (home) W 1-0
Harrow Youth League Cup 1st Round - 4 October 09
Scorer: Anthony Tang
Report Hendon Under-16s won their first competitive match since the current management team led by Paul McGreal took over at the beginning of last season with a 1-0 victory over Ruislip Rangers in the League Cup earlier this morning. Their previous win came in February 2008 when they beat Ruislip Town 6-4 in a league match.
The only goal came in the first half, after 28 minutes, courtesy of Anthony Tang. It came from a free-kick wide on the right wing, which was floated in by Tung Nguen and Tang beat goalkeeper to the ball from the edge of the six-yard box. Hendon had a couple of half-chances to extend their lead, but nothing clear cut. Stand-in goalkeeper, Michael Adeyemi, had very little to and he barely had a save to make in the 80 minutes.
"It's so nice to get that monkey off my back," said ecstatic manager Paul McGreal. "We played very well and we were extremely comfortable and I can't remember our defence under pressure in the game. It was a great team effort. My man of the match was Billy Williams, who was in perpetual motion in the centre of midfield for the whole game."

Headstone Manor B (home) L 1-2
Harrow Youth League Divison 3 - 11 October 09
Scorer: Tung Nguyen
Report Hendon Under-16s showed how much they have advanced since last season by being desperately disappointed to have lost to Headstone Manor's squad at Copthall Playing Fields in the Harrow Youth League Division Three on Sunday morning. Last season, at Under-15s level, the same opposition inflicted 12-1 and 5-0 defeats on Hendon, but this time they were delighted to hear the final whistle and claim all three points.
Hendon took the lead after 18 minutes when Michael Adeyemi set up Tang Nguyen. However, Manor hit back very quickly and were level two minutes later. The winning goal came with just eight minutes to go, but Hendon launched a furious rally in the dying moments forcing a succession of corners. From the last of these, a brilliant save by the visiting goalkeeper saw him tip the ball wide of the post to deny the Greens a deserved equaliser.
"On the one hand, I am very disappointed to have lost the game today," said manager Paul McGreal, "but, on the other hand, I am delighted that we gave a team that hammered us twice last season such a good game. I knew this would be a far sterner and more realistic test than the match last week. My man of the match was Michael Adeyemi, who displayed fantastic work=rate and commitment for the full 80 minutes."

Manor Youth (home) D 3-3
Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 18 October 09
Scorers: Tung Nguyen (pen) Zola Msimanga 2
Report Hendon Under-16s dropped more league points courtesy of a late equaliser at Copthall Playing Fields on Sunday morning, Manor Youth snatching an equaliser in the final minute.
Manor took the lead after just seven minutes when a deflected shot beat Liam Hyland. Two minutes later, Hendon were level when Sharif Malik was pulled back in the penalty area and Tung Nguyen converted the spot kick. Hendon fell behind for a second time ten minutes into the second half, conceding a penalty for handball and it was converted.
With 11 minutes to go Zola Msimanga restored parity and, four minutes later, a cross from Junior Abass was knocked into the net by Msimanga to give Hendon the lead. Just when it looked as if Hendon were going to record their first League victory for this age-group in 20 months (when they were Under-14s), a corner was not cleared and the loose ball was driven into the net to make it 3-3.
"It was slightly disappointing to drop points again so late in the match," said manager Paul McGreal. "The only time we lost concentration was in those dying seconds and they scored their equaliser. But on the positive side, we had a number of players who made major contributions and I am convinced we are going to give someone a right royal hammering very soon. My joint men of the match were Junior Abass, who was excellent in an attacking left midfield role, and Zola Msimanga, who was equally good as a central striker.”

Celtic (home) L 0-9
Harrow Youth League Cup 2nd Round - 25 October 09
Scorers: -
Report Hendon’s Under-16s were eventually outclassed on Sunday morning at Copthall Playing Fields as their opponents Celtic ran out 9–0 winners in the Harrow Youth League Cup. Despite conceding a goal in the ninth minute, the young Greens were the better side. Zola Msimanga and Tung Nguyen both had good chances go narrowly wide, whilst the Celtic keeper made good save from Anthony Tung. Celtic dealt a blow either side of half-time with their second and third goals, and it was the third that knocked the stuffing out of Hendon. Celtic then took control of the game and scored 6 goals in the last 25 minutes as they showed the class a side that play two divisions higher should do. Assistant manager Liam Coogan-Jobes was disappointed with the result but said “We put in our best performance of the season in the first half. Had that been a league game we would probably have been two or three goals ahead. Unfortunately our heads dropped when the third goal was scored and Celtic showed their class in the second half. My man of the match was Blake ANTWI, who worked very hard throughout the game. I must also mention Liam HYLAND, who made two or three important saves to keep the scoreline down.

Charville Atheltic (away) L 0-1
Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 1 November 09

Report: Hendon Under-16s took on Charville Athletic on Sunday afternoon, playing rivals who had yet to drop a point in the Harrow Youth League Division Three this season. That is still the case, but Greens manager Paul McGreal isn’t quite sure how this is the case. The fact is that the only goal of the game came against the run of play, after 20 minutes of the first half, when Charville scored with their only on-target effort of the period. Hendon, who had the very strong wind at their backs could not do much with all their possession and had few clear-cut opportunities. After the break, it was Charville who dominated, but they also were unable to take advantage of the conditions, while Hendon struggled to make any headway. “The wind completely ruined the game,” Mr McGreal said after the game. “We have played Charville twice in a month and both times we haven’t deserved to lose. The players are very down about the result but they really have nothing to reproach themselves about. My man of the match was Sharif MALIK, who was tireless and skilful in an unfamiliar central midfield role.

Hanwell Town (home) W 4-1
Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 8 November 09
Report: Hendon Under-16s were far from fluent but still managed to record their first Harrow Youth League victory at this age group for 21 months as they saw off Hanwell Town in a Division Three encounter at Copthall Playing Fields on Sunday morning. In the second minute Sharif Malik set up Zola MSIMANGA, who scored easily. Hanwell hit back well and should have at least drawn level or taken the lead, but found debutant goalkeeper Charlie FULTON in inspired form. After an injury reshuffle Hendon extended their lead on 27 minutes when Tung NGUYEN scored and, four minutes later, Malik gave Ignacio EZQUERRO – Hendon’s longest serving player – the chance to make it 3-1. On the stroke of half-time MSIMANGA grabbed his second of the morning. After the break, a combination of poor finishing, great defending and bad luck meant there were no goals until stoppage time, when Hanwell scored a most deserved consolation goal. Manager Paul McGreal said, “Possibly our worst league performance brings us our first win. We played better against Charville Rovers twice and got nothing. Nevertheless, I am glad we’re off the mark. It has definitely been coming. There definitely is room for improvement and once we are able to pick our strongest team, I don’t think there’s any team in the division who can compete with us. But if players don’t turn up for training, then I can’t pick our strongest team and we’ll continue to struggle. My man of the match was goalkeeper Charlie FULTON, who had a great debut, displayed some good handling and was unfortunate to concede a goal right at the end. Also a special mention to our longest-serving player Ignacio EZQUERRO, who took his goal excellently.

Pitshanger (home) L 2-4
Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 13 December 09
Report: Hendon Under-16s suffered a most frustrating Sunday morning at home to Pitshanger in the Harrow Youth League at Copthall Playing Fields. They produced some excellent football to take a most deserved half-time lead, but fell away disappointingly after the interval to lose 4–2. In the 18th minute, Zola Msimanga was fouled in the penalty area and Anthony TANG slotted home the spot kick. Pitshanger hit back seven minutes and equalised, but Hendon regained lead seven minutes before half-time. Sharif Malik was the provider for Jordan ROWE, who scored his first goal for the club. It seemed as Hendon would go on to win the game comfortably when they made a bright start to the second half and only a magnificent goalline clearance denied them a third goal which the visiting manager admitted would have been a death-knell for his team’s chances. Instead, five minutes later, Pitshanger scored their second equaliser and, from then on, they took control. A fine save from Charlie Fulton after 65 minutes did not get the reward it deserved because the ball fell to a Pitshanger player and he slotted it home. With five minutes remaining, as Hendon vainly searched for an equaliser, they left too many gaps in defence and Pitshanger added a fourth goal. “In the first half, we were very comfortable, winning all of the 50–50s,” said manager Paul McGreal. “We deserved to be in front at half time and I think it was probably the best we had played all season. Unfortunately, in the second half, we were as bad as we have been. My man of the match was Bobby KASABI.”

Harlington (away) W 5-4
Harrow Youth League Division 3 - 7th February 2010
Hendon Under-16s won a dramatic nine-goal Harrow Youth League encounter on Sunday morning, just seeing off Harlington. There was no hint of the drama to come in a first half completely dominated by Hendon. They took the lead with an own goal after four minutes and doubled the advantage after 22 minutes when Michael ADEYEMI smacked in a 40-yard drive. A minute before half-time Zola MSIMANGA made it 3-0 and the game appeared to be over as a contest. But, full credit must go to Harlington, who fought back magnificently and within five minutes of the resumption were trailing by only 3-2. Hendon then hit back with two goals in a minute midway through the half, MSIMANGA, again, and Sharif MALIK the marksmen. Harlington still weren't done and goals after 62 and 64 minutes again cut the deficit to a single goal. Earlier this season, and last, Hendon would almost certainly have caved in, but not this time. With five minutes to go, after more than 10 minutes of incessant pressure, a Harlington shot struck the underside of the crossbar, bounced on the goalline and back into play. That was as close as the hosts came, and a very relieved and happy Hendon team trooped off the pitch victorious.
"We hung on by the very skin of our teeth", said delighted manager Paul McGreal. "We were excellent in the first half and showed real grit when put under pressure in the last few minutes. I think we just about deserved the win on the balance of play. Michael ADEYIMI was an absolute colossus at the back, breaking up a lot of the Harlington attacks as well as scoring that spectacular goal and making two others. He was my man of the match"

Pitshanger (away) L 0-3
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 21st February 2010
Hendon Under-16s put in a very disappointing performance on Sunday afternoon as they lost 3-0 at Pitshanger. Despite a bright start to the game, they fell a goal behind in the 18th minute as the defence went to sleep. Chances were at a premium at either end, and the second goal didn't come until the 51st minute, and the scoring was completed fifteen minutes later.
Coach Liam Coogan-Jobes said "That was very disappointing this afternoon, we never really got going and we let Pitshanger dictate the game. It's very important that we bounce back next week against Wealdstone. My man of the match today is Shaquille Tyndale-Weekes who did everything we asked of him in the middle of the park."

Hanwell Town (away) Lost 1-2
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 7th March 2010
Hendon Under-16s disappointingly failed to hold onto a half-time lead and slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Hanwell Town in the Harrow Youth League yesterday morning.
Although they had the better of the first half, it took until the final seconds of the half for them to make the superiority tell. A throw-in was flicked on and Sharif Malik just got his toe to the ball to divert it over the line as the ball bobbled in the penalty area. Unable to go on from this position, Hendon were quiet in the second half and conceded a goal after 50 minutes, no defender quick enough to clear a rebound when the initial effort was saved. And things got even worse 15 minutes later when Hanwell scored what proved to be the winning goal.
"It was a very disappointing second half display," said assistant manager Liam Coogan-Jobes. "We did well in the first half and deserved to lead, but we let it slip. My man of the match was Ignacio Ezquerro, who was very solid at left-back, an alien position for him - he's normally a midfielder."

Wealdstone (home) Drew 0-0
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 14th March 2010
Hendon Under-16s spurned the best chance of a very poor encounter on Sunday morning and they and Wealdstone had to settle for a point from their encounter.
Neither team created much in the way of chances in the 80 minutes, but Hendon did waste easily the best of them when Isaac Instance was pulled down by the Wealdstone goalkeeper as the ball was trundling out of play over the goalline away from the goal. It was a clear penalty and Zola Msimanga took responsibility for the spot-kick. Unfortunately, his effort came back off a post and the chance was gone.
"There was very little to describe today," said manager Paul McGreal. "Apart from the penalty there were almost no clear-cut chances in the game. My man of the match was Joey Andrews, who was excellent at centre-back.

Harlington (home) Won 6-0
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 21st March 2010
Hendon Under-16s completed a magnificent double over promotion-chasing Harlington with a 6-0 victory at Copthall Playing Fields on Sunday morning. They took the lead after 17 minutes when a shot from Billy Williams was deflected into the net. Two minutes later, Zola Msimanga tried his luck with a shot. It was saved by the goalkeeper, but Msimanga knocked home the rebound. The best goal of the game came eight minutes before half-time when Junior Abass struck a stunning 25-yard drive that beat the goalkeeper all ends up.
Five minutes into the second half, Hendon got their fourth goal. A free-kick from Abass was touched home by Shaquille Tyndale-Weekes. Unfortunately for Harlington, their goalkeeper suffered a head injury colliding with the goal-scorer and had to leave the game.
Midway through the second half, a short corner was played to the edge of the box, Sharif Malik shot towards goal and skipper Bobby Kasabi diverted it into the net. And, with 15 minutes remaining, Abass ran through on goal. His shot was saved by the stand-in goalkeeper, but it was followed up by substitute Liam Hyland, normally the first-choice goalkeeper, but an emergency striker off the bench, and he slid home the rebound.
"It was a fantastic performance and absolutely thoroughly deserved," was the comment of delighted manager Paul McGreal. "Considering that Harlington were second in the league and could have won promotion today, it does show what talent we have in the side. We have completed the double over them and, with today's result and last week's too, I hope it means we will be more consistent towards the end of the season. My man of the match was Junior Abass. He played superbly in midfield."

Manor Youth (away) Won 3-2
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 28th March 2010
Hendon Under-16s produced one of their best performances of the season to overcome Manor Youth on Sunday morning.
On a difficult pitch and with a howling gale in their faces, Hendon, nonetheless took the lead after just three minutes, Zola Msimanga converting Billy Williams cross. Five minutes later Manor Youth were level, a corner being bundled home from close range. Battling into the wind, Hendon still managed to regain the lead after 21 minutes, Msimanga this time being the provider for Junior Abass. On the stroke of half-time Hendon had an escape when a Manor penalty struck a post and bounced away to safety.
In the second half, balls forward - which slowed perfectly for Hendon players to reach during the opening period - now blew beyond their runs and the game became very cagey. There were few chances at either. Then, with nine minutes to go, Hendon conceded a second goal, once more from a corner which bobbled around the penalty area. The only difference was the shot which beat Charlie Fulton came from the edge of the penalty area. With seconds remaining, Hendon launched one final attack. The ball fell to Abass, some 25 yards from goal. His shot was strong and true and it nestled in the net to give Hendon victory.
"In the end, we thoroughly deserved the victory," said an ecstatic manager Paul McGreal. "We are now three games unbeaten. In many ways this victory is even more satisfying than the 6-0 win over over Harlington last week, although I thought when they equalised that would be it for us and we’d go on to lose the game. It was very hard to pick a man of the match today, but for his winning goal, Junior Abass gets it, just ahead of Shaquille Tyndale-Weekes, who was superb in midweek.

St. Andrews (home) Lost 2-3
Harrow Youth League Challenge Trophy - 15 April 2010
Hendon Under-16s, unable to field a full-strength team in midweek, lost 3-2 at home to St Andrews in the Harrow Youth League Challenge Trophy last Thursday night.
Starting with 10 players, Hendon battled hard, but found themselves a goal behind midway through the first half although the defence was rather unhappy to see an offside decision from the assistant referee overruled by the man in the middle.
Up to full strength for the second period, Hendon drew level five minutes after the resumption, Junior Abass the marksman. But the defence was breached twice in 10 minutes midway through the half and Hendon were left with a mountain to climb. Billy Williams reduced the arrears with three minutes, but Hendon couldn't find an equaliser. "We were rather disappointing tonight," admitted joint-manager Liam Coogan-Jobes. "We battled hard but the performance was altogether rather poor. My man of the match was Junior Abass."

Headstone Manor B (away) Drew 1-1
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 18 April 2010
The under-16s drew their penultimate league game against Headstone Manor B 1-1 yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately they were forced to start with 9 men, with the remaining players delayed by rail-replacement buses.
Headstone opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a cool finish from just inside the box, just as the missing players arrived at the ground.
The Greens equalised in the 53rd minute, when a corner from Junior Abass was volleyed home by Jordan Rowe. Zola Msimanga and Michael Adeyemi forced the Headstone keeper into a couple of excellent saves, whilst Charlie Fulton in the Hendon goal didn't have anything major to deal with.
"It was a good performance - with 11 men for the full 80 minutes I'm confident that we would have won," said a happy manager Paul McGreal. "A win would have made us safe from the bottom two, but as it is, we're fourth. We've not lost in our last four league games, and I think the end of the season has come just that bit too early.
"My man of the match today was a very tough decision, but I've chosen Isaac Instance, who did a very good job in an unfamiliar role in the first half."

Wealdstone (away) Lost 0-1
Harrow Youth League Division Three - 2 May 2010
The under 16's season ended in defeat on Sunday as they lost 1-0 at Wealdstone, the goal coming in the final minute.
On a pitch that was heavy following the overnight downpours, both teams found it difficult to play decent football, particularly as there was also a gusty wind and Wealdstone scored with the last chance of the game.
Manager Paul McGreal was disappointed after the game and said "The difficult conditions made it tough, and we also suffered from some poor discipline. My man of the match today was goalkeeper Liam Hyland."
Team: Hyland, Andrews, Ezquerro, Kasabi, Adeyemi, Tyndale-Weekes, Rowe, Instance, Williams, Abass, Msimanga. Subs: Moumen, Fulton
